Active Ageing in the V4 Countries
The project focuses on senior citizens in the Visegrad region. It aims to combat social isolation and loneliness, to gather best practices on activities for older people and to prepare a handbook that could be used by different organizations and municipalities to motivate seniors to be more active.
Aging population is a relevant matter in many countries, also in the Visegrad region. Growing number of elderly people requires wider changes and a more age-friendly environment which facilitates their active social life.
The United Nations have declared 2021-2030 the “Decade of Healthy Ageing”. Reflecting on this, the consortium of experienced partners prepared a proposal which aimed at increasing the number of active elderly people by providing them with information about programs and services, empowering and motivating them to maintain a healthy and active life.
The project started with collecting the best practices implemented already by all participating organizations. Part of the process was discussion with seniors about their needs and opinions on possibilities to improve active ageing taking place in the form of World Cafes in each participating city.
The final product of the proposal was the guidebook for local and national stakeholders which can be used to facilitate elderly people to be active. The document was prepared in 5 languages: English, Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Slovak. It includes examples of activities for elderly people divided into thematic groups such as physical activities, programs addressing loneliness and isolation, life-long learning programs or leisure time activities.
The guidebook can be used by any organization and entity working with seniors as an inspiration or direct manual of offered activities.
